The Great Evliyzer

Power Rangers in Space, Episode 12

Last Time: The Rangers got a new megazord and the Phantom Ranger continued his tradition of being mysterious and a failure.

Phenomenus has another great invention, a ray that can give anything "an attitude."Unfortunately, the dial on the device makes it clear that the choices are limited to good or evil. He manages to turn a toy evil. Why would anyone make a ray like this, anyway? Did Phenomenus think to himself, "You know, my toaster works pretty well, but I can't help but think that it would toast faster if it were imbued with evil." The newly evil toy beats up Phenomenus, Bulk and Skull, easily shattering the mark for shortest time for science to lead to man's own destruction. Ecliptor shows up and steals the ray, laughing evilly as he does so. Credits!

In the Dark Fortress, Astronema is pretty pleased about having the "evilyzer" and orders Ecliptor to turn the Rangers evil, while she has a bigger plan that she's working on. She's been working on it for a while now, come to think of it. On another planet, Andros and Ashley are struggling with high gravity. They don't find anything so they leave. Excitement!

On their way back, they're spotted by a Quantron is a space-fighter that has been equipped with the evilyzer. He fires, but only manages to hit Ashley's Galaxy Glider. Andros manages to rescue her. On the Dark Fortress, Elgar makes fun of the plan and Ecliptor. Ecliptor, being the badass that he is, immediately shows up and meances Elgar. Astronema, who is wearing a lot of makeup this episode for some reason, orders Ecliptor to make a bigger evilyzer.

On the Megaship. the Rangers are trying to figure out what happened to Ashley's glider. Andros explains that the ray must have changed the glider's programming from positive to negative, or, in other words, making it evil. I don't think that's how programming works. Anyway, a monster shows up on Earth and the Rangers head off to fight him. Meanwhile, the bigger evilyzer is ready and Astronema prepares to fire. Ecliptor hits Elgar some more, because, well, it's what he does, but also who he is. Planetside, this week's monster apparently has the power to create illusions of other monters. Astronema decides to fire the satellilasers. The Rangers are still busy with the fake monsters, though, and have to call in the Delta Megazord to take care of the giant monster. This happens to be just what Astronema was waiting for, however, and she turns the Delta Megazord evil.

Fortunately, the evil Delta Megazord is kind of a coward, and so decides to just run away rather than fire on the Rangers. Having done their part, the monsters all disappear. The Rangers wonder where the Delta Megazord went, but their wondering is cut short when the megazord destroys a whole lot of buildings. Andros tries to reason with the megazord, but he learns that there is no talking to an evil robot with machine guns for hands. The Rangers call in the Astro Megazord, which seems unwise as there is still a beam capable of turning robots evil around. Andros keeps trying to order the Delta Megazord around, but it doesn't work. Actually, for minute it looks like it does, but it turns out that the megazord managed to fake Andros out. Fortunately, the Rangers are able to shoot some sort of ray out the Astro Megazord's chest in order to counteract the evilyzer. The evilyzer overheats, and the day is saved by the Quantrons' shoddy electrical work.

The Rangers, however, aren't sure whether or not the Delta Megazord is still evil, and the only way to know for sure is to dock into the new, and reasonably priced, Astro-Delta Megazord! The Rangers begin the delicate business of docking into the new megazord, and the audience gets their first look at the docking footage that they will see over, and over, and over again. However, the writers realize that there's nothing for the new megazord to destroy, so the monsters are suddenly back menacing Angel Grove. Andros shows off the new finisher, which involves firing the megazord's fists like missiles.

Up on the Dark Fortress, Elgar works Astronema's last nerve, and gets roughed up a bit more by Ecliptor. Astronema orders Ecliptor to get a newer, better monster.Elsewhere, Andros and Ashley retrieve Ashley's Galaxy Glider and make it good again. On Earth, Bulk, Skull and Phenoemenus are still being pursued by the evil toy. I guess the moral of today's story is that man should not tamper in God's domain by giving machines life, especially if the life is evil. Show Over!

Next Time: The episode's title is "Grandma Matchmaker," that can't be a good sign.
