Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Episode 26
Original Airdate: 10-28-2000
Last Time: Diabolico challenged Olympius for leadership of the demons. Result: Inconclusive!
Boy, that's a pretty shitty title. Anyway, the Rangers are fighting some sort of gladiator monster and get beaten up until Joel manages to trick Olympius into blasting his own monster, causing both to retreat. Credits!
Later, at the aquabase, the Rangers debrief, and decide they probably need some sort of new toy to defeat the monster, whose name is Infinitor. Joel, however, is lost in thought and hallucinates Ms. Fairweather praising him in a field of flowers, causing his eyes to sparkle. Captain Mitchell suggests they bring in someone named "Clark," with whom Ms. Fairweather has a past association. Joel immediately becomes possessive, because, well, if you're unstable enough to start seeing things whenever the object of your romantic desire talks to you, it's not like you're emotionally healthy enough not to leap to conclusions.
Back in their quarters, Chad makes fun of Joel, because Joel-baiting is the favorite sport of the Lightspeed Rangers. Joel decides it's time to go in for the kill, figuratively speaking...and maybe literally depending on how it goes, and gets some more flowers to bring to Ms. Fairweather. He runs into Clark and is dwarfed by the man. Clark goes in and gives Ms. Fairweather some flowers. Joel is less than pleased. Ms. Fairweather makes an offhand remark about liking men with "complex minds," wait, Joel, stop, don't....
Joel dresses up as the most stereotypical scientist that he could think of in a renewed effort to woo Ms. Fairweather. I don't know how the hell this is supposed to work, given that Ms. Fairweather already knows that Joel isn't really a scientist. Clark doesn't, though, and asks Joel to help him with some wiring. Joel immediately knocks out all power to the aquabase.
Back at the ziggurat o' boring subplots, Olympius sends Infinitor to kill the Rangers. Meanwhile, Joel is spying on Clark and Ms. Fairweather as she goes out with Clark. You know, I think this story just went from "poorly written, but harmless" to "Joel is basically a stalker." Chad's there too, but I don't know why. Joel sees a sprinkler near where Ms. Fairweather and Clark are parked, and sets it off. Clark simply raises the top on his car. Ms. Fairweather sees Joel and Chad tampering with the sprinkler and figures out what's going on, she confronts the two, but then Infinitor attacks Clark in his car and saves Joel from his deserved punishment. Joel saves Clark, and I guess that makes up for earlier or something.
Joel morphs and fights Infinitor, and Chad eventually remembers that he can also help. There's a new morph animation and....they probably should just have stuck to the old one. Ms. Fairweather instructs Joel and Chad to hit "861" on their Battle Boosters. They ask why, and she responds with "Mega Battle." Er...that doesn't really answer their question. Anyway, the activate the code and receive their new Battilizers. They don't look good, but they're better than last year's abomination, so I suppose I should be grateful for small favors. They're armed with a fire extinguisher and a giant reciprocal saw, respectively....er....those aren't very good weapons. Joel saws Infinitor to death when the monster helpfully stands still as he gets cut up.
Jinxer makes Infinitor grow, and the Rangers call out the Max Solarzord and the Lightspeed Megazord. Olympius decides to darken the sky, despite the fact that the Rangers can just call on their non-solar powered Omega Megazord and kill the monster. The Rangers call on the non-solar-powered Omega Megazord and kill Infinitor.
Later, Joel thanks Clark for his new "Mega Battle." Clark turns out to be Ms. Fairweather's brother. The Rangers laugh at Joel's mistake, because they not-so-secretly hate him. Show Over!
Show Over: Kelsey meets a thief with a heart of gold from the land of StockPlotia!
