Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 13
Original Airdate: 5-8-1999
Last Time: The Rangers finally found the Lights of Orion, which promptly hid themselves in a different location. Progress!
It's nighttime on Terra Venture, and Maya has dream. She wakes up the other Rangers just in time for them to see the Lights of Orion fly by the colony. Credits!
On the command carrier, the villains see the lights too, and Scorpius orders Treacheron to get them. The Rangers, meanwhile, pursue the lights in the Megaship, and both ships race after the prize. Scorpius, however, decides to blow out the Rangers' engines and take the lead. This, unfortunately, makes the Rangers resort to the Jet Jammers, which still look truly, truly terrible. The Jet Jammers slowly overtake Scorpius' ship, and so the monster releases the Sting Wingers. Leo goes on ahead while the other Rangers fight the Sting Wingers in the least exciting space combat that you will ever see. They eventually take care of the Sting Wingers only to learn that the lights are headed back to Terra Venture, making this entire sequence completely pointless.
The Samurai monster from last episode is sent to get the lights and fights the Rangers again. Meanwhile, the Magna Defender is about to grab the lights when he has another heart attack and stumbles to the ground. The samurai monster beats the Rangers again and steals the lights. Naturally, this leads to a scene where Trakeena manages to shoot the bad guys in the foot by sending her own monster to capture the lights. Her monster can impersonate Treacheron, and thus plans to get the lights from the samurai monster.
But before that can happen, the Magna Defender comes upon the samurai and attacks. Unfortunately, fake-Treacheron shows up to knock the Magna Defender off of a cliff and take the lights. They leave, and the Magna Defender climbs back up and pursues them.
Under a scenic waterfall, fake-Treacheron and the monster discuss their victory, and fake-Treacheron insists that they test the lights on someone before they bring them to Scorpius. The monster volunteers, and fake-Treacheron rewards his bravery with a lovely bead necklace. Yes, that actually happened. The beads, of course, are a trap.
The Rangers and the monster confront each other, and the monster uses the power of the lights. Magna Defender watches from nearby and is none-too-pleased. The powered-up monster looks basically the same except with some extra sharp edges. He defeats the Rangers, and the Magna Defender decides that it might be wise to come up with some sort of plan, rather than just charging in.
Later, the Rangers are picking themselves up off of the ground and some Sting Wingers attack. They actually lose the fight. Maybe the Rangers don't deserve extra powers this season. The powered-up monster decides to test out his new strength by "destroying everything!" This works to the Rangers' advantage, as it ends their losing battle with the Sting Wingers.
On the command carrier, Trakeena is continuing with her plan to trap Treacheron by claiming that the monster plans to keep the lights for himself. Scorpius calls Treacheron and asks him to explain himself, and he can't, what with the lights being in possession of his monster and all. Treacheron is imprisoned on charges...of treachery!
On Terra Venture, the Rangers regroup and decide to fight the monster again. They fail again, but are saved when the beads go off and poison the monster, who is then taunted by Trakeena's monster. She tries to steal the lights from the samurai monster, but is interrupted by the Magna Defender, who has decided to make the situation a lot less confusing by killing some or all of the monsters present. He blasts Trakeena's monster and sends her packing. He then instantly solves the problem of the power-up samurai monster by knocking the Lights of Orion right out of him.
The Magna Defender then tries to get the lights for himself, but is blocked by the Rangers who don't want him to have the lights and fulfill his goal of killing their common nemesis. The Rangers last about five seconds against the Magna Defender, which seems about right. The Rangers decide that they have to destroy the lights to prevent the Magna Defender from killing Scorpius. The Lights of Orion instead choose to empower the Rangers. In fairness, quasi-sentient lights are typically poor judges of character. Leo explains that the lights can only be used for good, and that's why the Rangers are getting them. Uh...didn't the Rangers get the shit beaten out of them repeatedly in this very episode when the lights were used by an evil monster? Shut up, Leo.
The Rangers receive the lights and get fancy new armbands and other accessories. The Magna Defender demands the lights and the samurai monster also wants in. The Rangers kill the Samurai monster with their new attack that involves turning into a ball of light and flying through the monster. The Magna Defender skulks off rather frustrated at the whole sitution. On the command carrier, Treacheron is put in a cell and vows revenge while Trakeena observes from a distance and laughs. Show Over!
Next Time: Treacheron sort of tries to get his revenge, but it doesn't go well.
