Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 25
Original Airdate: 10-28-1999
Last Time: Something about meteors....or something? I believe that a high-five was involved...and maybe the Robo-Kaiser, although I may have made him up.
On the bridge, Commander Stanton is giving Kai a lecture about trusting your instincts, and about how you've got to break the rules sometimes. On the command carrier, Kegler and Vilemax explain that they can destroy Terra Venture as it approaches a red giant star. Trakeena is delighted by the proposal. Credits!
At the park, Commander Stanton's daughter, as seens in Kai's last spotlight episode, is drawing a picture of the commander. A monster teleports in and starts wreaking havoc. Commander Stanton, being a man of duty, decides to confront the vile creature himself, and gets shot with a magical arrow for his troubles. The Rangers show up and the monster retreats. Commander Stanton gets back up, but starts speaking in monotone and abandons his daughter.
Commander Stanton heads to the bridge and order Kai to shut down the engines. Kai reminds him that such action will cause the colony to drift into the nearby star. Commander Stanton insists, and Kai decides to follow his orders, despite their suicidal nature.
At the Galactic Apartment, Kai burns some food, which he apparently does whenever he's in love or has just condemned his fellow men to firey deaths. Leo and Damon are not sympathetic, even when Kai reveals that as a result of Commander Stanton's orders, they're all going to drift into a star...which is bad. Leo and Damon accuse Kai of being wrong and tell him to trust the commander.
Later, Commander Stanton orders Kai to change course so that Terra Venture is heading directly towards the star. Kai is slightly concerned by this order, and refuses to carry it out. Kai gets suspended from duty, his shoulder insignia ripped off and taken away by guards. I guess the moral of today's episode is that it doesn't matter if you disobey orders, because you can always be replaced.
Kai angrily walks through town until he remembers Commander Stanton telling him to trust his instincts. He decides to stalk Commander Stanton throughout town, and soon finds the commander talking to the monster from before. Kai rushes out to confront the monster, but can't stop Commander Stanton from getting back to the bridge. The other Rangers show up, and Kai decides to bail on the fight and stop the commder from plunging the colony into a star.
Kai catches up to Commander Stanton and starts fighting him, and is eventually able to lock him in a handy supply closet. He then heads back to help the other Rangers fight the monster, and they use the Lights of Orion Deadly Stock Footage Onslaught of Money Savings to kill the monster. It's megazord time, and Mike actually gets to use the Torozord for the first time in a while, and even manages to shatter the giant monster into a bunch of tiny pieces. Of course, Mike can't be allowed to finish the monster, so it promptly re-forms. The Galaxy Megazord then ends the fight with its sword.
Kai and Mike retrieve Commander Stanton, who is back to his old, bland self, and they all manage to steer the space colony away from the star. Later, at the park, Kai, Leo and Maya are playing with Commander Stanton's daughter. The commander drives up wearing business casual clothes instead of his uniform, which is odd, seeing as his daughter is wearing some sort of stock jumpsuit. Commander Stanton has also gotten Kai a new uniform to replace the one he ripped earlier in the episode. Further, he decides to take the day off and puts Kai in charge. Kai heads to the bridge and take command. His first order: to dump Leo out of an airlock! Well, not really, but I'd totally support that initiative. Show Over!
Next Time: Is Saban a bad enough dude to introduce two different motorcycles for the Red Ranger in the span of single season?
