Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Episode 13
Original Airdate: 5-6-2000
Last Time: Ryan got over being sold into demonic bondage by his dad, but refused to be the Titanium Rangers for some vague, ill-defined reason.
In the aquabase, Ryan somehow gets aboard without any outside help, I guess he swam? He storms off to see his dad. Ryan announces that he's leaving because he has to go find himself. Of course he does. Captain Mitchell urges Ryan to find the "ocean of goodness" within himself, and gives him a mystery box to open when Ryan realizes his inner benevolence. Gee, I wonder what could be inside. Credits!
In the ziggurat o' blackguards, Bansheera threatens to put Impus, the baby, in charge if Diabolico doesn't start showing some real progress in his mission of murdering the Rangers. Diabolico, however, only has three monsters left, so he decides to use them all at once. Unfortunately, the monsters' plan involves evil feathers. Diabolico is boned.
Elsewhere, Ryan is taking a walk through town. Hey, exactly what kind of childhood did Ryan have anyway? I mean, he seems relatively normal for a guy raised by demons, hell, he even knows how to use hair gel, apparently. Anyway, he looks at some kids playing in the park encourages a little boy to spend more time with his sisiter. Ryan finds one of the evil feathers and gives it the boy.
At the bus terminal, Ryan is preparing to leave town, but realizes that he doesn't know where the fuck he wants to go. Some old woman gives him some stupid advice about following his heart or something. Okay, plot, move along now!
The Rangers finally get alerted to the trio of monsters and are sent out to fight them. It does not go well for the Rangers, who get trounced. The monsters, probably feeling about beating the team, decide to give an unusually detailed explanation of how the evil feathers work. Apparently they're harmless by day, but explode at nighttime, and one of the monsters gives a helpful demonstration by magically creating a field of darkness around the Rangers, causing a feather to explode. The only way to disarm the feathers is to beat the monsters by sunset. Um....the monsters probably didn't need to tell the Rangers, and, by virtue of their communicators, the aquabase, all of that information. Meanwhile, the kids Ryan talked to earlier still have one of the feathers.
At the bus terminal, Ryan has decided to get on a bus to Van Nuys. As a Midwesterner, I have no idea what that means. The TV helpfully informs us that Lightspeed has declared a state of emergency and sent out a warning about the deadly, deadly feathers. I wasn't aware that Lightspeed could independently impose a state of emergency like that. Ryan realizes that he may have accidentally blown a kid up, and decides to go back and help.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are still trying to kill the monsters, and still failing. The sun starts setting and Carter realizes that this isn't working and decides to try a new plan. They're able to ambush the monsters, but their weapons aren't strong enough to kill the monsters. Elsewhere, Ryan has somehow managed to track the kid from earlier and saves him from the explosive feather. The feathers around the city explode, mainly hurting the Rangers.
Ryan decides to open the mystery box, and finds the Titanium morpher. Back at the monster fight, the Rangers are about ready to be killed when Ryan busts in and morphs. He's able to defeat all three monsters by himself, and forces them to retreat.
Back at the base, Ryan gets him own Lightspeed jacket, and Dana claims that Diabolico can't hurt him now. Diabolico loves dramatic irony! That night, Ryan has a nightmare where Diabolico calls him out for his treachery. He blasts a cobra tattoo on Ryan's back, and explains that the cobra will crawl up Ryan's back a little bit everytime Ryan morphs, and when it reaches his neck, Ryan will die. The other demons are also there and Vypra creates the worst evil laugh in history. Ryan wakes up, and it was just a dream....but he has the cobra tattoo...so, not so much. Show Over!
Next Time: Ryan finds out that as a result of Diabolico's unsterile tattoo parlor, he also has Hepatitis C.
