Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 40
Original Airdate: 11-18-1999
Last Time: The season was running out of money, quickly, so the writers whipped up a dream episode where they could use as much Sentai footage as possible to keep the season going.
In space, Captain Mutiny is rowing over to Hexuba's chamber. I don't know how the hell you can row in space. Hexuba has a new plan that involves raising dead monsters from the grave to kill the Rangers. Incidentally, it's nice to know that as late as 1999, it was perfectly acceptable to have a blatantly offensive Gypsy stereotype on children's programming.
On Terra Venture, Leo is going for a run when the Tiki monster from the episode where the Magna Defender kicked it shows up. Leo recalls killing this particular monster before and is confused. Credits!
The Tiki monster is reasonably sure that he can kill Leo so long as no other Rangers show up...but they do, and that's that. The Rangers reflect the Tiki monster's odd resurrection, but soon find another dead monster. It's one of the monsters Deviot hired to kill Trakeena....and, if I recall correctly, he never actually fought the Rangers. That's fortunate, because it allows for the producers to use the original Sentai footage and save more money. Elsewhere, Mike sees another monster zooming towards Terra Venture. Leo uses his Quasar Launcher as a bat to beat the monster he's currently fighting to death and the Rangers move on.
Next, the Rangers fight a monster I can't remember. He gets swiftly killed by the Transdaggers. The Rangers realize that they have to fight the monsters at the source, and Kai volunteers to find where they're coming from.
Okay, the next undead monster is that saumrai monster who took a good long while to kill. Leo finishes him off with a normal sword strike. Elsewhere, Mike is fighting...some dude. I think it's the first monster that the original Magna Defender killed. Meanwhile, Kai finally approaches the graveyard where the monsters are coming from. Mike, however, now has to fight Treacheron, and Leo kills another monster with some fire. There are now too many monsters, however, and the Rangers must split up.
At the space graveyard, Kai interrupts Hexuba's ceremony and starts fighting her. Back on the colony, Mike re-kills Treacheron, while Leo and Maya kill another monster I can't remember. Damon and Karone have to fight Hartichoke.
Kai, however, loses his fight with Hexuba and is restrained with some sort of electrical rope, but still manages to destroy Hexuba's magical ball, and with it, the entire space graveyard. On Terra Venture, the Rangers have killed all of the monsters except one, but are out of energy. Kai shows up and kills it. But then Hexuba shows up for more monster fighting. She casts a spell to give her all of the defeated monsters' powers, and that allows her to repel the Lights of Orion attack. So Leo calls his monstrosity of a Battilizer to kill Hexuba. It's kind of unclear if it actually works, because she grows to giant-size which she may or may not have done as a result of being destroyed.
It's an old-school Megazord fight as the producers use the long-form docking sequences and the music with lyrics, just like the old days. The Galaxy Megazord and torozord aren't enough, so the Rangers call in their reserves, which means more stock transformation sequences. Anyway, that's as much stock and Sentai footage as they can wring out, and the Rangers finally kill Hexuba.
Later, Commander Stanton has some important information for Kai, Mike and one of the members of the council of elders. It turns out that the fuel supply is tainted and Terra Venture is running out of power. And that's bad. They only have one or two more days left before they all die. Show Over!
Next Time: Er....they don't all die.
