The Delta Discovery

Power Rangers in Space, Episode 11

Original Airdate: 4-11-1998

Last Time: A monster turned out to have a heart of gold. Unfortunately, he also apparently had a spleen of emo.

Down on some jungle planet, the Piranhatrons are back....and that means that Divatox is back with her goons, well, except for Elgar. Anyway, this is the planet where they're keeping Zordon, but Divatox swiftly order him taken away. Suddenly, an ominously partially invisible figure makes his move. Unfortunately for the Phantom Ranger, the Piranhatrons are keeping their kickassedness that they earned in last season's finale, and instantly spot him and discreetly report his presence to Divatox. The Phantom Ranger manages to do his best Princess Leia imitation by leaving the Rangers a message about the location of Zordon, but unfortunately, much like the princess, he too gets captured by basically useless troops. On the Astro Megaship, the message is received. Credits!

Back from the credits, the Rangers hear the Phantom Ranger's message, and Cassie remember that the Phantom Ranger was sort of, kind of her love interest last season. Then again, so was her dog. The Rangers decide to immediately rush to the planet. How much do they rush? Hyper-Rush 9!

On the jungle planet, the Piranhatrons are taking Zordon off the planet, and Divatox is somewhat concerned that the other Rangers are going to show up. The Phantom Ranger turns invisible and escapes. He manages to almost catch up with Zordon when Astronema comes in with some Quantrons. She blasts him with her staff and sends in the Quantrons. The Piranhatrons also catch up to the Phantom Ranger. He is not doing too well. On the Dark Fortress, Elgar sees the Rangers approach in the Megaship. On the planet, Divatox and Astronema have met up with each other, and take the time to promote all of the catty instincts that men assume are true of all women. Dark Specter shows up to cool that noise, and orders Astronema back to Earth. He then tells Divatox to get Zordon the hell off of the jungle planet before the Rangers show up. She grumbles, but does it.

Back on the planet, the Phantom Ranger sees the ship with Zordon get away and is pretty bummed. You know who's good at helping out people with those sort of problems? Ecliptor, who shows up out of nowhere and starts beating the Phantom Ranger with his big sword. It's hard to feel sad when you're fleeing for your life. On the Megaship, the Rangers finally arrive and go down to the planet. On the planet, Ecliptor sends the mooks away because he wants to finish the Phantom Ranger by himself. The Rangers show up immediately after, and Ecliptor is momentarily delayed. Ecliptor knows that he can probably beat all of them, but is recalled by Astronema, who has other plans. Phanty informs the other Rangers that Zordon is off the planet, and Alpha calls in to tell them that there is no trail. Another stunning success for the Power Rangers!

On Earth, Astronema realizes that the episode is only half over, and sends out an alligator monster to kill some time. The Rangers realize that they have to head back. The Phantom Ranger gives the Rangers the Delta Megaship as a consolation prize. I'm pretty sure that his secret identity is Johnny Zordseed, a folk hero who went from planet to planet, building gigantic engines of death wherever he wandered. Phantom Ranger goes on to tell the Rangers that they have to pick up the Delta Megaship immediately, because it's "completely unprotected." Andros decides to pick up the ship by himself while the other Rangers had to Earth to fight the monster. The Rangers leave and Phantom Ranger keels over. Is this the end of the Phantom Ranger? Yeah, like I'd be that lucky.

The Rangers except Andros make it back to Earth, and I realize that that means that T.J. is once more in command. The Rangers are doomed. The Rangers head to down to fight the alligator monster, and five seconds in, the monster is already trying to bite off T.J.'s arm. Astronema decides to hurry this the hell up and calls for the satellilasers. The Rangers counter-call for the Astro Megazord. The Astro Megazord wrestles a gator, as we knew that one day it must. They hit it with the sword and seemingly finish it off, but the monster splits into two instead. I don't think that's how alligators work. Elsewhere, Andros is still looking for the new megazord. The Astro Megazord gets beaten up some. Andros finally finds the Delta Megaship which, true to its name, is a giant triangle. The Phantom Ranger guides Andros through the passages of the megaship towards the control room. The Astro Megazord gets knocked around a bit more. Andros reaches the control, and the Phantom Ranger has to guide him through the start-up process. Unfortunately, Andros has to insert the disc he received from the Phantom Ranger into the primary disc drive, but there are too slots, and the Phantom Ranger has passed out from his injuries again. Why would the Phantom Ranger build something like that? I mean, was he worried that his enemies would find him, take his disc, torture the location of the Delta Megaship out of him, figure out their way through the maze of corridors in the ship, and then be stopped by having to pick the right disc drive to install the disc in?

Anyway, the Astro Megazord is still losing, and Andros is trying to get the Phantom Ranger to tell him which disc drive to use. He choices the on the left, and lights start flashing as the computer counts down some sort of ominous "sequence." It turns out that the klaxons and lights were part of the security verification process. The computer gives Andros a remote control called the "Battalizer," and Andros heads off with the ship towards Earth. The Delta Megaship makes it to Earth in about three seconds and morphs into the Delta Megazord.

The machine makes it to Earth, and we learn that the Delta Megazord has machine guns for hands. It swiftly becomes apparent that much as normal gators are no match for men with machine gun hands, so too are their giant monster equivalents doomed against the Delta Megazord.

On an unnamed world, Dark Specter and Astronema are chatting about the Power Rangers. Astronema has a new plan, but Dark Specter threatens to "crush the Dark Fortress as you sleep," if Astronema keeps failing. Back on the jungle planet, the Rangers find the Phantom Ranger has left behind a message to keep hunting for Zordon, but also leaves behind a special message to Cassie saying that he'll be alright. Great. Show Over!

Next Time: Phenomenus builds a device to turn machines evil, for peaceful purposes of course. It doesn't end well.
