Journey's End, Part III

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 45

Original Airdate: 12-18-1999

Last Time: Let's see, okay, every villain but Trakeena died, and she went into the cocoon to give herself more power. On the Rangers' side of the ledger, Terra Venture, the Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazords, and the Megaship all got wrecked. Necessary house-cleaning, I suppose.

On the wrecked command carrier, Trakeena once more enters the cocoon to gain more power. She emerges rather quickly and is now a hideous monster. Meanwhile, Leo is stuck on the moon unmorphed. Last episode they made a big deal about evacuating Terra Venture because the moon had no atmosphere....but I guess the since a lot of the human body's need for oxygen is due to the energy-intensive work of the brain, Leo's probably fine. He starts heading to the ruins of Terra Venture. Final Credits! Bulk's in the opening credits! Despite only being in about four episodes this entire season!

On the planet below, the Terra Venture refugees are making camp. The Rangers are looking for Leo, but can't find him. The missing Red Ranger is walking on the moon, in fact, and is able to track Trakeena's path to the wreckage of Terra Venture through her mucus-filled footprints. Because she's a monster now, you see, and thus produces lots and lots of mucus.

Trakeena is able to reach the center of the city and somehow repowers the entire city with her staff. She then gets the city to lift off the moon's surface and sends it plummeting towards the human camp. Leo finally catches up to her in the command room of the city, and notices that Trakeena is now really, really slimy. Nonetheless, he has no choice but to fight her. Leo, however, is decidedly overmatched.

On the planet below, the other Rangers are still looking for him when Mike calls in and explains that they've found Leo....on the ruins of Terra Venture flying directly towards the colonists. The other Rangers decide that they really ought to stop that and fly up on their Jet Jammers.

The other Rangers show up but aren't much more effective. Commander Stanton and the others look up to the sky and see Terra Venture descending on them and are mildly concerned. Meanwhile, the Rangers have decided to use a bunch of their weapons one last time. First up, the Quasar Launchers! They do nothing. Next up, the motorcycles! They also fail. How about the Capsular Cycle? Nope, doesn't hurt Trakeena a bit.

On the planet, the colonists are fleeing and Bulk is among them. Good ol' Bulk. Okay, so what haven't the Rangers tried? Oh, yeah, the fucking Battilizer. Leo pops it out and it still looks incredibly heavy and awkward. Leo uses the grabbing arm of the armor to pull Trakeena into point blank range and then fires all of his weapons at her at once. A giant explosion consumes both warriors as Leo realizes that this may have been his most idiotic idea yet.

The other Rangers run up to the blast crater and assume Leo is dead. As if I should be so lucky. No, the fuckface is fine and gives his team a thumbs up....and then the Rangers realize that while killing Trakeena was neat, it doesn't stop the colony from plummeting onto the colonists. Fortunately, the Rangers still have one toy they haven't used during the last few episodes, and the Galaxy Megazord shows up to push the colony to a safe crash landing. The Rangers survive and everyone celebrates.

The Galactabeasts show up to reveal one last secret. The Rangers walk through a nearby jungle and realize that they've landed on Mirinoi. Er....wasn't Mirinoi completely turned to stone. I mean, there are still stone people, but everything else seems normal and that's not exactly how it happened way back when. I only bring this up because the opening sequence of every episode clearly shows the entire planet turning to stone. Listen, I'm not a continuity nerd or anything, but it seems like you should keep things consistent IN THE SAME EPISODE! Oh, fuck it, only five minutes left. Maya decides to give a little speech to wrap things up and she flashes back to the footage where everything got turned to stone. Of course.

Anyway, let's wrap this up. The Rangers realize that if they return their Quasar Sabers to the stone where they found them they can save Mirinoi, and they do so. Everyone on Mirinoi turns back to flesh and blood, even that spaced out elder from the first episode. Also, Kendrix comes back...as a zombie! And she breaks open Leo's head like melon and devours his brain! Actually she's back to normal somehow. The Galactabeasts shoot off some fireworks and.....Show Over! Season Over!

Next Time: The Least Memorable Season of Power Rangers that Ever Was!
