Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 9
Original Airdate: 4-3-1999
Last Time: Kai fell in love, which seemed to cause a significant amount of brain damage. Also, Commander Stanton realized that he is the effective king of Terra Venture, and can do as he pleases.
In the cave last time, Furio has found the Lights of Orion, and Leo also shows up because he claims to have last seen Mike there, but that wasn't really Mike, and Leo knows that so......
Anyway, the two fight, and Leo gets the upper hand. Furio goes with plan B, which involves him self-destructing. The other Rangers arrive just in time to see the entire cave go up in a hellish conflagration. But through the smoke, the Magna Defender theme starts playing, and we get our first look at the guy. He's got black armor, bull's horn and a cape, and is carrying Leo out of the cave. Credits!
On the command carrier, Scorpius has a new general, named Treacheron. Sounds trustworthy. Scorpius explains that the Magna Defender has come back for revenge and the Lights of Orion. Scorpius decides that this is no time to fuck around, and sends three monsters to take care of Magna D.
Later, in the Megaship's infirmary, Leo imagines that it was Mike, not the Magna Defender who pulled him out that cave. This gives Leo an idea, and he rushes off. He heads back to the cave in order to find out if Mike is the Magna Defender and sees a shadowy figure pickaxing a rock. It flees before Leo can found out what it is. Leo breaks open the rock and finds a smooth stone, which he then takes.
At the lab, Kendrix is analyzing the stone, but no one knows what it is, or what's inside. Kendrix decides to try a different lab, and Leo gives her a maniacal grin and two thumbs up. On the way to the other lab, though, Kendrix gets attacked by a monster, which takes the rock. The Magna Defender stops the theft almost immediately by shooting the monster with his gun as the Magan Defender theme once again swells in the background. Kendrix picks up the stone and the Magna Defender wordlessly motions for it. The other Rangers show up to prevent that, but ol' Magna D demands it be given to him. The monster takes advantage of the confusion to steal back the stone and escape.
Magna Defender starts stalking off, but Leo demands answers. Magna Defender responds by punching him in the solar plexus. I like the Magna Defender's style. Kendrix is able to prevent further violence, and the Magna Defender leaves.
Later, under an overpass, yes, Terra Venture has overpasses, the monsters, Treacheron and Trakeena are all trying to break into the stone and receive the Lights of Orion, but they fail. Treacheron comes up with a plan that involves luring the Rangers into a trap and that does work. The plan appears to be to trick the Rangers into using their powers to accidentally open the stone. The Rangers oblige by pulling out their Quasar Launchers, but they aren't strong enough. The Magna Defender music starts playing once more as he walks on over to kick some monster ass. The monster sends out some Sting Wingers, but well, you know.
The Magna Defender carves up some Sting Wingers with his sword, as Leo thinks about he fights like Mike used to. The monster decides to charge the Magna Defender, which ends with said monster getting sliced open by Magna Defender's sword. It also opens up the stone, which turns out to be devoid of the Lights of Orion. Treacheron decides to fight the Magna Defender personally, and they both flash back to their last fight. It turns out that 3000 years ago, Treacheron attacked Magna Defender when he was weakened and sealing him in a hole in the ground. I'm not exactly sure where that hole was, on Earth? Mirinoi? Somewhere else? Anyway, Magna Defender is now back and ready for revenge. The Rangers decide to intervene, to little effect.
Trakeena decides to send in a giant-sized monster to do...something. The Rangers decide to use their individual zords against the monster, and it turns out that they can do things other than merge into the megazord. Not exciting things, though. Eventually, they realize that they've killed enough time and finish off the monster with the Galaxy Megazord.
Back on the ground, Magna Defender and Treacheron decide to fight hand-to-hand, but then decide to go back to swords, and eventually just stalemate. The other Rangers show up and ask Magna Defender to team up with them. Magna Defender wants no part of that, and leaves to the sounds of one more rendition of the Magna Defender theme. Leo realizes that the Magna Defender isn't his brother and leaves. Show Over!
