A Red Romance

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 28

Original Airdate: 11-2-1999

Last Time: Loyax learned an important lesson about redemption....five seconds before Deviot blew him to pieces.

On Terra Venture, some girl crashes her bike and Leo leaps out of nowhere to save her from falling three feet to the ground. Leo is immediately set upon by the girl's brother, one Colby, who throws Leo into a picnic table. I heartily approve of Colby's "hurt Leo" initiative. The girl, named Ginger, stops Colby by explaining that Leo saved her from minor abrasions, and Colby apologizes.

On the command carrier, Deviot is introducing Moronda, supposedly quite a strong monster, despite her unfortunate name. Her special power is the ability to trap people on mirrors, which isn't really that special seeing as two episodes ago there was the monster who could turn people into trophies. Trakeena approves. Credits!

At Colby's garage, Colby fixes his sister's bike, and lends Leo his dirtbike. Leo takes it for a spin and we see a montage of him riding around. Ginger, for whatever reason, is oddly giddy at the display. Leo asks Ginger for a date, and she's non-commital, and Leo leaves. Colby reluctantly agrees to drive her to the park so she can meet Leo.

The next day, Ginger and Leo are walking in the park. Ginger complains that Colby is overprotective of her, but seeing as she's walking around in a halter top and a miniskirt, he might not be protective enough. Leo shows off his skills by doing some backflips, but then slips on a tennis ball, which I assume cancels the former out.

And just like that, a romance montage attacks! Complete with some awful, awful late-90s pop music! They fly kites! It occurs to me that the producers might have fucked this up, because I think it's supposed to be the same date, but they're both wearing different clothes. The date ends, and Ginger walks off...and immediately gets spotted by Moronda. Leo tries to save her, but fails, and Ginger is captured.

Later, Leo goes back to Colby's garage, and tries to think of the most diplomatic way to say, "I let your sister be captured by an evil monster with sinister intent." Unsurprisingly, Colby is not pleased and runs off to try to save his sister. He runs to the scene of the monster attack and finds Ginger's shoe, which had fallen off during the fight. Well, it looks like it's open-toed, so maybe it's more of sandal? I don't know.

Colby accuses Leo of cowardice for leaving his sister behind, and that makes Leo try to hug him. Colby rebuffs the oddly-timed gesture, and decides to save his sister himself. Leo realizes that he probably shouldn't let that happen, and stops Colby before he can get himself killed. Colby explains that his parents wanted Ginger "to be somebody," and sent her and Colby on Terra Venture to make that happen. Apparently Colby has let down his parents by letting Ginger get captured by a monster. Leo is either dumbfounded or just dumb, and lets Colby race off on his dirtbike to go fight the monster.

Colby drives to a construction site and starts yelling for the monster to show up. I don't think it works like that. Elsewhere, Leo is still brooding about Colby's hurtful comments. He eventually decides that letting Colby get killed is really only a short-term fix to his problems, and decides to save him.

That's good news, because Colby gets smacked around by Moronda. Unfortunately, Leo has gone looking for Colby at the man's garage and Alpha has to call Leo in order to set him straight. Leo eventually shows up to save Colby, but Colby shoves him into some cardboard boxes instead. Eventually Leo is able to earn Colby's trust by taking an energy blast meant for Colby. He gets Colby to stay behind and pursues the fleeing Moronda.

From there, it's basically not much to write about, the other Rangers show up, some Sting Wingers are called in, and Moronda calls forth a snake-themed motorcycle. The Lights of Orion attack, fails, however, and Colby has to save them with his dirtbike. Leo realizes that he has to fight motorcycle with motorcycle, and kills Moronda with his Capsular Cycle, and releases Ginger, as well as some other people who didn't have brothers that beat up Leo.

Moronda predictably gets huge, and the Rangers call on the Galaxy Megazord. Moronda gasses the Rangers and they all start hallucinating some trippy shit. The Rangers call on the Centaurus Megazord, and it performs it's traditional role of softening up the enemy for the final strike. Moronda gets stone/slashed, and that's the end of that.

Later, Colby reconciles with Leo, and allows him to go out with his sister. In fairness, Ginger is pretty hot. Show Over!

Next Time: One last filler episode before things get...interesting.
