Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Episode 19
Original Airdate: 9-2-2000
Last Time: The mind-boggling truth behind Captain Mitchell was revealed!
Okay, so, the planets have all aligned and the demons are preparing to summon Queen Bansheera and jockeying for credit. Credits!
Carter and Joel are driving through Mariner Bay, fighting over what music to play. Apparently Joel like Country music, which may be the least realistic aspect of the show this season. Then the sky goes dark and they all head to the aquabase for a briefing. It turns out that the planets are aligning, and Ryan explains that the demons are about to bring back Bansheera, which would be bad. We get a look at the ceremony and it's rather disorientingly shot. Captain Mitchell decides to save time now by summoning the Lightspeed Megazord.
The Rangers head off and Ryan eventually is able to figure out where the ceremony is taking place in all of its spazzy glory. Captain Mitchell sends Ryan to intercept it because the other Rangers are busy with some repeat stock footage from earlier this season. Ryan, however, is immediately captured. Captain Mitchell decides he might as well send in the other Rangers to help Ryan, because, well, Ryan isn't very good.
However, they're too late, as the ceremony concludes and a bright light erupts out of the temple they were using. The Rangers, able to follow the ominous light, show up to interrupt whatever phase of the ceremony is currently being performed. A quite long fight scene ensues, featuring the first battle Loki has been in all season, and a few more dead Batlings. Carter's eventually able to take down the monster of the week leading the ceremony, but, as the show is only half over, there must be a megazord battle.
The Rangers call out the Max Solarzord and the Lightspeed Megazord, but well, it doesn't work, so they combine them into the Lightspeed Solarzord. Unfortunately, Queen Bansheera is starting to materialize and Vypra is apprehenisve...or excited....or hungry. She's not the best actress in the world. Anyway, Bansheera unleashes a tidal wave against Mariner Bay, and the aquabase is doomed. Ryan, however, now has a plan! He decides that maybe it would help if he stopped that ominous light coming from the temple. Seems like the Rangers would have done something about that before....but well...
Ryan smashes a glowing orb at the center of the light pillar with his axe and this kills the monster, unsummons Queen Bansheera and somehow stops the tidal wave. The planets drift out of alignment and the day is saved. Oh, wait, the monster actually survived Ryan's attack....for ten seconds before the Rangers finish him off. Incidentally, the alignment of the planets in this episode, shaped like a cross, is about as impossible an alignment as you could conceive.
Later, Olympius isn't thrilled that his minions are fuck-ups. He's interrupted when part of Bansheera rematerializes, as she was only able to get about half of her body into this dimension before the Rangers stopped the ceremony. Meh.
Down at the aquabase, Ryan is claiming that the Rangers are now completely doomed unless they find whatever MacGuffin sealed the demons away 3000 years ago. He volunteers to roam the Earth searching for the answer. Eh, whatever gets Ryan out of my hair. Show Over!
Next Time: Hey, remember that time a couple of seasons ago when the Rangers had to stop an asteroid headed towards Earth? You do? Well, then you can skip next episode.
