The Lost Galactabeast, Part I

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 19

Original Airdate: 10-16-1999

Last Time: We learned how boring the Alien franchise would have been if the producers had mandated that no character ever got killed.

On some unknown planet, a giant vehicle is dropped off. Meanwhile, on the command carrier, Scorpius' chamber is invaded what I can only describe as some sort of robot dressed in Elizabethan era garb. The robot's name is Deviot and he claims that he has three zords under his command, and bargains to become Scorpius' second-in-command, as well as use of the cocoon. Scorpius demands a show of strength first, and Deviot agrees. Guess who's he's going to attack? Credits!

On Terra Venture, all of the scientists are trying to decipher the book recovered last episode. They've managed to figure out nothing. Kendrix, however, her intelligence boosted by being part of the regular cast, finds a torn page with pictoral representations of the Galactabeasts. Half of the page is missing, though, and we know that Deviot has three new zords, so you can guess where this is going. Out in the jungle, the Galactabeasts are talking to Maya, apparently they all sense something. Incidentally, you'd think someone would notice the giant animals running around in the enclosed space colony, but then again, the management of Terra Venture seems to range from incompetent to suicidally incompetent, so I guess it isn't that surprising. Oh, and Damon has fixed Kai's car, which Deviot immediately wrecks. He then beats up the two Rangers and captures then. As is traditional, this will be the high point of Deviot's competence as a villain.

And Deviot's fall into idiocy comes ever faster than most, because he decides to fit Damon and Kai with some sort of restraining devices and then force the two to fight each other. Apparently the fight between the two Rangers fuels Deviot's zords...somehow. The plan fails when the two hurt each other too quickly to properly power the evil zords.

Later, Kendrix is still looking at the book, and finds the missing part of the page showing the Galactabeasts. The missing Galactabeasts are a shark....something with wings....and what appears to be a Rhino standing upright. Maya comes in and explains that she feels "something in the air." I don't think it's possible to get more vague than that. They eventually piece together that Maya is sensing the three missing Galactabeasts.

Leo comes home to the Galactic Apartment to find his dinner smoking on the stove. He immediately starts looking for Kai so he can yell at him. So, wait, Kai has to do the cooking and hold down a steady job? While Leo does nothing? Man, that doesn't seem fair. Maya and Kendrix walk in and notice that Kai and Damon are absent. They decide to investigate.

On another planet, Deviot is making Damon and Kai fight some more. Damon is about to be forced into killing Kai when he throws his Quasar Saber at the controls, blowing them up. Kai and Damon escape, and all Deviot can do is send some Sting Wingers after them. Fortunately for Deviot, Kai and Damon eventually reach the coast of some sort of alien sea, and have nowhere to run to. Unfortunately for Deviot, this mandates that the other Rangers show up. Mike also decides to make an appearance. The Rangers mash Deviot with their Lights of Orion attack, but Deviot somehow uses the energy to finish powering up his zord, and we can move onto the main event.

Deviot calls for the Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazord, and the Rangers and Mike respond in kind. The stage is set for a showdown....but the Galaxy Megazord stops working. Deviot, of course, has twigged onto what's happening and has a theatrical chuckle. The Rangers are beaten convincingly, and Deviot decides that he's done enough to get his generalship and calls his zords off.

On the Command Carrier, Scorpius wants to know why Deviot didn't kill the Rangers, and Deviot explains that he wants to cocoon first. Dude, Deviot is a robot, I don't know exactly what he thinks the cocoon is going to do for him. Scorpius demands the Rangers be destroyed first, and Deviot reluctantly agrees.

On Terra Venture, Kai and Kendrix are still trying to decipher the book but can't quite manage to suss out that the mysterious new zords are connected to the mysterious lost Galactabeasts. Fortunately, they've got another episode to figure it out! To Be Continued!

Next Time: Uh...essentially this episode again, but with a different ending.
