Redemption Day

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 15

Original Airdate: 5-22-1999

Last Time: Treacheron got killed, and I already have forgotten everything about his character. I think he was a pirate or something.

On the command carrier, alarms are going off and the ship's leaking fuel. They stop the leak, but need to refuel immediately. Scorpius decides to siphon some gas off of Terra Venture.

On that very space colony, Leo and Maya, chronically unemployed on a place where that really shouldn't happen, are driving through the Mountain Dome. Leo starts telling a story about a tree or something that even Maya doesn't listen to. Maya tells Leo to stop the car, and they see the command carrier flying by outside. It starts firing on Terra Venture. Credits!

On the bridge, Commander Stanton orders the Mountain Dome, who is losing atmosphere, sealed off, and Leo and Maya are barely able to escape. This is all according to Scorpius' plan, who orders energy drained from the now isolated dome. Somehow, the villains are able to drain all of Terra Venture's power this way. The Rangers assemble and decide to head to the Mountain Dome, as does the Magna Defender.

The Magna Defender's plan is a doozy, as it involves destroying the entire dome in order to kill Scorpius, and he intends to facilitate that destruction by creating a volcano. Alpha informs the Rangers that said volcano will certainly destroy the entire colony if it goes off. The Rangers show up in the Galaxy Megazord to stop the Magna Defender, as does Scorpius by way of a new monster. Unfortunately, the mosnter's name is Freaky Tiki, and you can guess from that he stupid he looks.

Torozord, however, wants no part of this destruction, and throw Magna Defender to the ground. The Magna Defender's bad day continues when he gets Freaky Tiki's spear stuck in his back. Leo takes the ailing Defender away as the rest of the Rangers stare down the monster. Some Sting Wingers also show up to kill some clock. Magna Defender decides to drop a drama bomb by explaining that he know Mike...because he stole Mike's body so that he could escape from the chasm he had fallen into 3000 years previous. But apparently whatever Magna Defender did to Mike isn't quite working because Mike will die unless Leo kills the Magna Defender.

The Magna Defender decides to goad Leo on by drawing his sword so Leo can claim self-defense. Leo won't do it and leaves. The Magna Defender flashes back to his dead son. Elsewhere, the Rangers fight the tiki monster, using the Lights of Stock Footage to defeat him. But, as is traditional, there is a giant-sized fight. The monster gets killed, but his spear falls into the volcano and, for some unknowable reason, that sets the volcano off. I guess the moral of today's episode is to be careful where you dump your used spears. Scorpius, however, is done fueling, and disconnects.

The Rangers try and fight a volcano, but spandex proves poor protection against lava and they fail. The Magna Defender muses of the costs of vengeance, and sees a vision of his dead son that tells him to stop the volcano. The Magna Defender agrees, but his armor starts breaking down. He manages to trap the Rangers in some sort of forcefield with his sword, in order to stop them from stopping him, and heads off to save the colony. He also sends the Torozord away, because he has to do this alone. He manages to get himself mortally wounded, and starts talking to his dead son again, who is apparently proud that his dad managed to sacrifice himself in order to stop the disaster that he had also caused. The Magna Defender turns himself into a ball of energy and prevents the volcano from going off.

The other Rangers wonder what the hell just happened, as do I, and Leo proclaims that the Magna Defender will "live forever." Er....not so much. They're all kind of sad that the Magna Defender is gone, even though his sacrifice was the result of his earlier plan to kill everyone on Terra Venture in order to get revenge. Oh, and Mike's alive again and walks up to the rest of the Rangers. They're all happy to see him, even those that only knew him for five minutes several months ago. Show Over!

Next Time: Leo proves that he can brood about anything!
