Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Episode 24
Original Airdate: 10-7-2000
Last Time: Carter discovered the secret of time travel but everyone decided to ignore it because that would make things too damn complicated.
At the ziggurat o' treason, Bansheera orders Jinxer to bring Vypra and Loki to her so that they can be promoted in place of Olympius, who overhears the conversation. Thus, he lures Vypra and Loki into meeting him in a desert and traps the pair with some sort of magical vines that drag them into the bowels of the earth. Wait, Vypra's gone? Hooray! Credits!
Later, Olympius decides to lie and say that the Rangers killed Vypra and Loki and vows to avenge them with another monster of the week. The monster is some sort of plant thing who walks through a field, rips off his own arm and plants it in the ground. Dude is hardcore. The Rangers stumble onto the arm, which causes vines to erupt from the limb and engulf the Rangers' morphers. The plant monster then pops into explain what the hell is going on. You see, the vines around the morphers will, at noontime that day, release a cloud of poisonous spores, and thus kill a whole bunch of people....assuming that the Rangers now decide to walk into the middle of a crowded bus terminal out of spite.
The plant monster leaves and goes to meet with Olympius, who claims that he "loves it when a plan comes together." Yeah, and I love it when you don't drag the specter of another poorly-written show from the past into this poorly-written show from the past.
Elsewhere, a suspiciously Asian hand emerges from the ground. Oh, come on, show, don't do this to me! Yep, Vypra and Loki are alive and they storm off to plot their revenge on Olympius.
Later, the Rangers have decided to get their spores looked, and the plants turn out to be indestructible. Captain Mitchell has news from a lab on the other side of town with a poison, and the Rangers rush to get the poison they need to kill the spores. They arrive to meet the smuggest scientist in human history who assures him the poison will work. The plant monster shows up and breaks the vials containing the poison, because he's taking a stand against the lax regulation of herbicides in America. Carter then decides to blast into outer space in the Max Solarzord in order to protect Mariner Bay. The plant monster sees them lift off, and reasonably pleased with the outcome of his plan.
But wait! Carter has one more idea! Carter orders the airlock opened so that all of the spores are sucked in the vacuum. Also, the atmosphere and pressure, which people kind of need in order to live. Kelsey's harness breaks and she's almost sucked into space, but the other Rangers manage to corral her and the day is saved. The plant monster, suitably irritated by this improbable turn of events, decides to just smash the city to bits, but the Rangers show up to put the kibosh on that and the monster's life.
And now is time for the ol' megazord battle. This time Olympius decides to turn the sky red and set the city on fire for kicks. It does the plant monster no good as he gets stabbed to death by the Omega Megazord.
Later, Vypra and Loki are continuing their tour of the desert and find the tomb from the beginning of the series. Ryan is also there and he watches them enter the ancient ruins. Vypra recites some spell and resurrects Diabolico, who vows revenge on the Rangers...also Olympius. Ryan continues to look on and appears mildly concerned. Show Over!
Next Time: Hey, do you enjoy watching the demon power struggle? No....oh....you're probably not going to like the next episode, then.
