Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, Episode 2
Original Airdate: 2-13-1999
Last Time: Exposition!
On the moon, everyone's packing it in. Kai is mopey because Kendrix and Mike are gone, although he feels a bit better because Leo's gone too. On Mirinoi, Kendrix and Mike discuss Leo. Apparently Leo's a reckless dipshit. Not terribly surprising, I guess. Back on the shuttle, Kai remembers that Commander Stanton said something about not leaving people behind, but sees a flyer for the Asto Megaship, which is now a museum. An idea forms in his mind. Credits!
On the ol' Megaship, DECA and Alpha are conducting tours, and Kai gets the tourists off the ship. Alpha demands to know what the hell is going on. Kai explains that he's taking the ship. Damon shows up to explain that the ship's a museum, and can't fly. Alpha and Damon ask to see Kai's orders. Kai admits that he is basically stealing the ship, which is apparently his only hope. Damon is skeptical and leaves. It takes Kai about ten seconds to break the Megaship. Whoops. Damon comes back to prevent his place of employment from exploding. The Megaship takes off and manages to sideswipe a skyscraper. They head up into space and find another portal to Mirinoi. That's lucky. They go through.
On Mirinoi, Leo runs into a bunch of Sting Wingers and decides to charge them. Mike and Kendrix show up to save his sorry ass. Furio is still trying to get the Quasar Sabers, and threatens to destroy the whole planet if the village elder doesn't tell him how to do it. He's interrupted by Mike and company, and then Kai and Damon show up from out of nowhere because the writers didn't want to write a linking scene. They all fight some Sting Wingers, and it goes poorly until Mike accidentally draws one of the Quasar Sabers. Everyone but Leo also grabs a sword. Furio decides to go with plan B, which involves turning the whole planet to stone. It's a pretty good plan. The Rangers decide to retreat. Furio intercepts them, and decides that he might as well cause a giant earthquake while he's at it. Mike falls in, and Leo chases after him. Mike can't get out though, a decides to give Leo his Quasar Saber instead. Mike decides that he no longer wants to live in a world where his fuck-up of a brother is the main character, and so decides to cast himself into the pit. The ground then closes up, double-killing Mike. Everyone calls out Mike's name, even Damon and Maya, who have known him for a combined thirty seconds, because that's how much everyone likes the guy.
The Rangers reassemble, and feel some sort of primal instinct telling them to morph. And they do, unfortunately, their costumes aren't very good this season. Furio sends out the Sting Wingers and the Sting Wingers lose the first of many fights. Leo fights of Furio. Then Kai remembers the whole "planet-turning-to-stone problem," and the Rangers have to retreat. Leo doesn't want to go because he thinks that he can still save Mike....who fell into a bottomless chasm, and then was presumably crushed when the chasm closed. Leo is....not the brightest Ranger there ever was.
On the bridge of the Megaship, Alpha is psyched to once again be employed, and the Megaship takes off. The rest of Mirinoi turns to stone. The Megaship barely makes it through the portal and heads back to Terra Venture. Maya decides to explain the significance of the Rangers retrieving the Quasar Sabers. Apparently the Rangers are supposed to defend all that is just and good in the universe. They will interpret the 'universe' to be Terra Venture for the purposes of their patrolling. Leo realizes that it was supposed to be Mike, not him, as the Red Ranger.
Terra Venture finally takes off from Earth. Elsewhere, we are introduced to the protagonist of the season. It's a puppet named Scorpius, and he sounds like he has asthma. He orders Furio to find John Cricht-I mean, the Quasar Sabers. He may be the least-impressive villain in Power Rangers history, and that includes Divatox. Show Over!
Next Time: The worst Megazord to date!
