Power Rangers in Space, Episode 24
Original Airdate: 10-16-1998
Last Time: Zhane decided it would be a keen idea to try to score with Astronema, the woman who continually plots to kill him and his friends.
On some sort of red, desert planet, Zhane and Andros are scanning for energy readings. The other Rangers are providing support from the Megaship. The other Rangers decide to also go down to the planet. They quickly get captured by masked figures with guns. A man with a mustache and a beret orders them taken away. It's the Brigadier! Credits!
Zhane and Andros realize that Zordon isn't on the planet, and also that the other Rangers have gone missing. The other Rangers are put into a makeshift jail. They notice that there is some sort of plague going around that turns people into coral. Elsewhere, the Brigadier is communicated with Dark Specter, who orders him to destroy the four Rangers he's already captured. Dark Specter also briefs Astonema and Ecliptor on the situation, and orders them to destroy Andros and Zhane. Astronema is still conflicted about killing Zhane because of last episode. Ecliptor is not, and gets Astronema to order them destroyed. He orders some Quantrons to get them. Astronema retreats to her quarters and looks at her photograph of Zhane some more.
Ecliptor rather easily ambushes Andros and Zhane with some Quantrons, but his plan falls apart when it requires the Quantrons to do something other than sucking and dying. Underground, the Brigadier charges the captured Rangers with turning the population into coral. The assembled elders are skeptical of the Rangers, until they reveal that they are, in fact, the Power Rangers. The Brigadier, however, sensing a shift in support, plants a vial of the plague on Ashley. The Brigadier orders them executed. The head elder, though, insists on a trial.
Later, the Brigdier updates Dark Specter on the situation. The head elder hears the whole thing, and figures out that the Brigadier is responsible for the coral plague. A coral monster drags the head elder away, ending that problem. Topside, Andros and Zhane are still looking for the Rangers. Meanwhile, the other Rangers are trying to escape from their prison. They do, only to run into the infected head elder and the pursuing Brigadier.
At the trial, the entire population is unanimous in calling for the Rangers' executions. Andros and Zhane finally show up to save the other Rangers, and it turns out that the planet is entirely populated with refugees from KO-35, their home planet. The crowd quickly turns on the Brigadier, who decides to throw caution to the wind and summons a monster. The Rangers face off against it while Zhane goes after the Brigadier.
The Rangers get their morphers back and take the fight outside. Meanwhile, Zhane continues to pursue the Brigadier. The coral monster grows to giant-size, and the Rangers call on the Astro Megazord. Zhane catches up to the Brigadier and starts fighting him. The Astro-Delta Megazord is called for when the Astro Megazord proves to be not up to the task. Underground, the Brigadier reveals himself to be Darkonda. Outside, the coral monster is put out of its misery. This somehow cures everyone of their coral-related ailment. Zhane is also able to take out Darkonda.
The refugees, however, have seen Empire Strikes Back, and realize that they have to evacuate the planet. The Rangers volunteer to help. On the Dark Fortress, Dark Specter once again calls for the destruction of the Power Rangers, and Astronema agrees to try again. On the planet, Zhane has decided to stay behind with the refugees. Hooray! My long nightmare is finally over! Zhane threatens to some day return, but looking at the episode list, he won't be back for....six episode. Damn it all to hell! The Rangers leave the planet, and Andros thinks about Zhane. Show Over!
Next Time: Carlos learns an important lesson in not blaming yourself for unavoidable accidents....again.
