Power Rangers in Space, Episode 39
Original Airdate: 11-13-1998
Last Time: Andros gained the most ridiculous armor ever constructed. It created a mixture of lust and disgust in my American male heart that is hard to express in words.
The Rangers have tracked down the missing people for Secret City to a cruise ship. Sometimes the Sentai footage is...unhelpful. The Rangers find out that no one's there. The camera is incessantly waving back and forth to indicate the waves, and it's rather distracting. The Rangers leave empty-handed. Credits!
It turns out that Astronema decided to put Secret City under the ocean. She makes the Quantrons bring Bulk, Skull and Phenomenus into some sort of lab. They're turned into datacards by some sort of machine. She is pleased, and calls in the next group.
On the Megaship, the Rangers finally find the Secret City. Andros suggest that they tunnel into Secret City from underneath by means of the Megatank. Unfortunately, the Sentai footage wants no part of that plan, and so instead we see the Megatank driving through a tunnel that appears to have already and then crashing into a wall of rocks. The Psycho Ghosts are also there.
The Rangers are trying to sneak into the city undetected, and are quickly found by some Quantrons. And we cut to Astronema who explains that this was all part of her plan. Andros and Cassie walk into a lab, and Astronema turns Cassie into a datacard with that same machine as before. Andros looks on stupefied. The other Rangers show up and Andros broods. Then Astronema turns them all into datacards....uh...okay, so that was Power Rangers in Space.
No, actually, as has become a tradition, though the Rangers have utterly failed, something intervenes to protect them from total destruction. In this case, it's the Psycho Ghosts, who realize that they can't destroy the Rangers if they're datacards. They hijack the machine and make themselves whole once more. They bring the Rangers back to life for the sole purpose of killing them again. But once again, fate intervenes and Ecliptor shows up to beat on the Psychos for their insubordination. The Rangers bravely run away.
The Psychos, however, quickly dispatch Ecliptor and catch up with the Rangers. Andros suddenly remembers that Zhane exists, and calls Alpha to tell Zhane to retrieve the datacards. The Psychos, as is usual, thrash the Rangers. Meanwhile, Zhane has showed up, only to be blocked by Ecliptor, who doesn't last long. Zhane finds the datacards and starts converting them back into people. Bulk, Skull and Phenomenus are first, and the professor explains to Bulk and Skull exactly what just happened. Bulk and Skull actually take it pretty well. Outside, the Rangers aren't doing so well, so Zhane suggest luring the Psychos to the control room.
In the lab, all of the people are back to normal, and the Rangers teleport them to safety. The Rangers get the Psychos to stand directly under the machine from earlier, and the monsters are turned into datacards. Unfortuately, this somehow causes Secret City to begin self-destructing and Zhane loses the cards. The Rangers narrowly escape but can't find Zhane. He shows up, and everybody's happy.
On the Dark Fortress, Astronema has the datacards and another plan. What deus ex machina will save the Rangers next time? Show Over!
Next Time: Die Hard on the Astro Megaship! Starring Alpha 6 as John McClane!
