Bodyguard in Blue

Power Rangers: Time Force, Episode 16

Original Airdate: 5-19-2001

Last Time: Eric got control of the Q-Rex and the Rangers took a principled stand against corporate greed...or something, I don't know.

Mr. Collins holds a press conference to announce that not only does the Quantum Ranger now work for him, but that he also has a top scientist working to replicate the future technology. He also announces his company's new slogan, "Fuck Causality!" Wes is upset that his father is trying to protect the present with new technology rather than preserving the awful future that Wes' friends come from.

Mr. Collins then has a private meeting with Eric and the scientist, a Dr. Zaskin, where he announces his plans to learn all of the secrets of the Power Rangers. I think I'm supposed to think this is a bad thing, but I kind of like Mr. Collins and Eric better than this season's Rangers, so I'm kind of pulling for the old man. Credits!

The next day, Dr. Zaskin is about to go to work when his daughter shows up and bugs him for a goodbye kiss. He gets captured by Nadira and a monster but at least his little girl escapes. She runs away and finds Lucas unnecessarily involving himself in some other people's car accident, mainly so he can hit on a chick. Lucas is a terrible person. The little girl, being basically a moron asks Lucas to be her bodyguard, and manages to outwit him into agreeing.

Back at Evil Corp, Eric informs Mr. Collins that Dr. Zaskin has been kidnapped. He orders Eric to get Zaskin back. Elsewhere, Dr. Zaskin is being tortured for information, but is defiant. Nadira, having one of her "smart" days, realizes that if they can capture his daughter, it would probably be enough.

Lucas decides to drive the little girl home, but she tries to explain that she's being hunted by robots. This leads to Lucas yelling at the girl for a bit before he calls Trip to confirm that the girl is telling the truth. The Rangers figure out that Dr. Zaskin has been kidnapped, and some Cyclobots surround Lucas' car, which still has the little girl inside. Lucas isn't so good at this, but he is able to dispatch the robots and drives off. The little girl points out that Lucas sucks. The monster shows up, but is so ineffective that he litterally throws himself at Lucas' speeding car.

Meanwhile, the reasons that the mutants lost the war become all too clear when the other Rangers are able to sneak up on Zaskin's location undetected. Lucas gets down to the business of actually fighting the monster. Lucas morphs in front of the girl, but seeing as the biggest corporation in town and the villains already know the Rangers' identities, I don't know that it really matters. Lucas gets his ass kicked, and the little girl has to step in to stall the monster so Lucas can recover. Wait, wasn't the monster tasked with kidnapping the little girl?

Anyway, the other Rangers manage to fuck up their resuce of Zaskin who's about to be taken away by Nadira when Eric shows up and shoots Nadira in the shoulder. Nadira retreats and Zaskin thanks the Rangers for....I don't know, giving a good effort, I suppose. Lucas kills the monster by himself, and that means it's time for the giant robot fight. Holy fuck does this season's megazod introduction take a long time. Anyway, the Rangers screw it up again and Eric shows up to once again save the day.

Later, Mr. Collins and Eric discuss the situation briefly. Lucas drives the little girl home, and swears her to secrecy about his secret identity. The other Rangers show up and make fun of him for being nice to the little girl. Show Over!

Next Time: Time Travel....with Katie....and a ghost. Damn it, show, we must you give me such gifts only to snatch them away?
