The Bear Necessities

Power Rangers: Wild Force, Episode 7

Original Airdate: 3-16-2002

Last Time: Max found a new zord at the bottom of a lake....a giraffe, which are known for hanging out submerged in water.

Taylor's doing some jogging and ends up at the local Air Force base, looking in at her old comrades-in-arms. And it's flashback time: A year ago, Taylor was flying a fighter plane, when she was distracted by the Eagle Zord and crashed into the Animarium. She wandered around a bit and ran into Shalya, who explained that she's the new Yellow Ranger.

Back to the present! Taylor runs into two children of Plot Significance and helps them escape from the air base. Great. In town, a new monster attacks, the might Cell Phone Org. Wow....that's...Anyway, the monster starts bugging people with some irritating sound, and the Rangers get called in to fight it. Taylor gets their first and uses her own magical cell phone to morph. The Cell Phone Org wants to steal her phone, but Taylor escapes. Toxica and Jindrax show up to alert the Org to the other Rangers, as well as give him some Putrids, and, after the unfortunate business last episode, explain to him that the Putrids are on his side. The monster then sets up a force field to mess with the Rangers.

Taylor keeps running from the Putrids, and once again the brothers from earlier show up with their dead eyes and soulless faces. The children of the damned then kill some Putrids with some sort of magical power.

The other Rangers finally catch up to Cell Phone Org, who jams their morphing phones and once more ineffectually tries to steal the Rangers' morphers. Christ, it used to be that if a monster wanted to steal a morpher, he could pull it off no problem....but this season even the monsters suck.

Speaking of sucking, the Brothers of the Corn decide to use some sort of psychic powers on the injured Taylor. This causes Taylor to remember a time when she was a little girl on an airplane that she first saw the Animarium....but no one believed her. Taylor wakes up, healed, and is led by the brothers back to the Air Force base, where she stops them because she doesn't want to go back there....what with the desertion charges and all. Still, she's kind of bound by the plot, so she sneaks them onto the base past the world's worst military guard. They end up in a hangar where the brother teleport Taylor to a cliff face, where they force her to retrieve a flower at the bottom. So...uh...did the writers make this episode by free association or something? I mean, if the brothers could teleport, then why bring Taylor onto the military base?

Elsewhere, the other Rangers break the antennae off of Cell Phone Org, and now can morph. That's turns out to be lucky, as Taylor falls off the cliff face and has to morph in order to survive. She gets the flowers, and the brothers give her a couple of stones in return.

At the monster fight, Taylor shows up, and well, there's no way that the Cell Phone Org can survive that, and he goes down roughly ten seconds later. Taylor: "Your service has been terminated." Eh...it's not the worst thing I've heard on this show.

Megazord madness! The Wild Force Megazord is useless against power of a 3G network! Fortunately, the brothers, still holding their flowers show up...for they are, and always have been, giant Bear Zords. Shayla explains that the Black Bear represents fire, while the Polar Bear represents ice. You know, I can't help but reflect that most of these zords represent animals that are, or at least were, on the endangered species list. Well, whatever. The Bear Zords attach to the Wild Force Megazord and blast the Cell Phone Org to death.

Celebration time! Er...maybe not, as the Wild Force Megazord suffers a catastrophic failure and collapses. It turns out the Lion Zord is badly hurt. Whoops!

Next Time: To solve a problem caused by new zords, the Rangers must find yet another new zord!
