"Cars Attacks"
Original Airdate: 5-20-1997
At the darkened juice bar, some girl is dancing. Having no rhythm or dance knowledge myself, I can't tell if she's good or not. Kat wanders in and watches her dance. The dancer stops and leaves without saying a word. Credits! Who is the mysterious Dancer X?
Turns out she's Lt. Stone's niece, Jenny. Apparently she's been sent to Angel Grove for the summer in the hopes that Lt. Stone can set here straight. As Lt. Stone spends most of his time watching others laugh at the increasingly bizarre indignities that he endures, I don't think it's going to work. Anyway, Lt. Stone is hoping Jenny will open up once she adjusts to Angel Grove. Living under the specter of constant monster attacks is probably a pretty big adjustment. Anyway, Kat is going to another audition, this time for something called the Royal Academy. Tanya is there to support her as Tommy is busy...I'm going to guess driving around an empty race track. Kat auditions, and for all I know she does a good job. Jenny is announced as being next, and arrives just in time, and does some sort of modern dance thing. Jenny still refuses to acknowledge Kat. Both Jenny and Kat make it to callbacks.
Down in the space-sub, Divatox is disdainful of ballet, she comes up with a plan. We don't get to hear what it is, but I'm going to go ahead a guess that involves a bomb with an impractically long timer, a monster used as a distraction, and her eventual defeat. Back at the juice bar, Lt. Stone is trying to balance the books. ChimpBulk and ChimpSkull still want to prove that they are human beings trapped in chimp bodies, and they figure a display of accounting prowess will accomplish just that purpose. Kat and Tanya are walking along and get attacked by Piranhatrons and Elgar. While the girls are distraced, Elgar sneaks in a plants a bomb that looks like a cassette player. These week's questionable bomb timer works by requiring a tape be played on the bomb-cassette player and then counting to 100, at which point the bomb will go off. Outside, the Blue Senturion shows up and beats up some Piranhatrons, as his toys are selling as well as they could. The Piranhatrons lose.
At the juice bar, Lt. Stone accidently serves Tommy and Adam empty glasses. Stone-sy explains that he just found out that someone stole an entire week's receipts from him. He muses on how he used to be a cop, and immediately suspects Jenny. He confronts her and it doesn't go well. Kat and Tanya show up and they wonder what Divatox's plan is this time. They quickly conclude it involves a bomb, because, well, it's Divatox. Divatox observes their meeting, and realizes the Rangers are going to search for the bomb, because, well, they're the Rangers. You know, it might be time to shake up the status quo just a little bit. The doorbell on the space-sub rings and a monster named Wolfgang Amadeus Thriller shows up. He offers his services, and Divatox accepts.
Down at the ye olde Power Chamber, the Rangers are ready to go on yet another thrilling search for a bomb when Wolfgang shows up and somehow causes the cars of Angel Grove to fly around the city out of control. The Rangers morph and head out to stop him. When the Rangers arrive downtown, Wolfgang shoots cars at them. The team doesn't do too well against the onslaught of autos. Back at the auditions, the bomb counter is running. The Rangers manage to beat Wolfgang by using the Turbo Ram Cannon. The cars all return to normal. Divatox fires the torpedoes, but Elgar and Rygog took the torpedoes out of the tubes for polishing. Divatox orders them to fight the Rangers instead. Meanwhile, the bomb counter is still running, and there's only twenty seconds left!
The Rangers fight off Wolfgang, Elgar and Rygog. The Blue Senturion shows up and he and Tommy shoot Wolfgang to death. Okay, so it's been about three minutes since there was twenty seconds left until the bomb went off so the Rangers have only....three seconds left. They also interrupt Jenny's audition. They get rid of the bomb and the day is saved. Jenny is too flustered to continue.
Later, Kat and Jenny get called in front of the judges. The director informs Jenny that her attitude makes her untrainable, and therefore she's out. Apparently real dancers aren't distracted by threat of firey death by bomb explosion. Kat gets accepted. She then go outside to talk to Jenny. Jenny sees where this is going and wants no part of it, so Kat insults her for a while. This apparently breaks Jenny and she resolves to mend her ways. So, I guess today's moral is that the only to fix the socially maladjusted is to emotionally brutalize them. It's for their own good.
Back at the juice bar, everyone realizes that if Kat goes to the Royal Academy, she can't stay a Ranger...it's not going to turn out to be an issue. The stolen money from earlier turns up, and ChimpBulk and ChimpSkull are behind it's disappearance. Lt. Stone apologizes to Jenny, and is spared his usual end-of-episode humiliation. Show Over!
