Power Rangers Turbo 101
The year was 1997, and deep in his fortified compound on the outskirts of LA, Haim Saban was not happy.
The previous series, Power Rangers Zeo, had been plagued with sagging ratings, an unfortunate contract dispute with long-time fan favorite David Yost, and the fact that no one quite knew what the hell a "Zeo" was. What's worse, the current actor playing the blue ranger, Steve Cardenas, had injured himself doing a stunt, making Saban's "Why pay for actors AND stuntmen?" policy seem all the more foolish. Clearly, something would have to change....
Thinking quickly, the brain trust behind Power Rangers figured out that the smartest way to launch a new series of Power Rangers and the accompanying merchandise would be to release a feature film. Oh, in hindsight the pitfalls of making a movie based on a series based on Japanese stock footage may seem unwise, but it was a different time. The movie was a colossal disaster, and Power Rangers stood on the brink of disaster, could Power Rangers: Turbo save the franchise from certain doom?
No, no it could not.
